Template talk:HOWTO
Weird bug fixed?
I noticed on the Quick start page that, when two HOWTO templates occurred in the same line, the first one appeared to generate a linebreak in the source, so that the text following the first HOWTO was rendered as a "code box".
Futzing with the template revealed the following
This
[[{{{1}}}|{{{1}}} HOWTO]]
<includeonly>
[[Category:Documentation]]
</includeonly>
evidently inserted the linebreak between the [[..]] and the <includeonly> element. The weird behavior was fixed when the above was changed to
[[{{{1}}}|{{{1}}} HOWTO}}]]<includeonly>[[Category:Documentation]]</includeonly>

That sound correct. Including a template will include all text from that template - even white space. Therefore, the former would include two line breaks one immediately after the [[..]] and one for the empty line between [[..]] and <includeonly>. The same goes for the line break after the category bit. See wikimedia docs for further info

- I'm taking out the Category:Documentation tag -- it seems gratuitous, as it tags every page in which the HOWTO template appears, even this one: User Talk:Adong. Roll it back if you think otherwise. --maj 04:13, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
