ProSA
ProSA - Protein Sequence Analyzer - is a Perl-based web interface that searches for known protein domains in nucleotide or protein sequences using the PROSITE database, with the purpose that the user can predict to which possible protein family a laboratory obtained sequence belongs to.
PROSITE is one of the most known and used databases for the identification of functional domains in protein sequences. There are some tools that perform searches in the database; unfortunately, this searches are limited exclusively to protein sequences, excluding the possibility to perform searches from nucleotide sequences, which are more usually obtained in laboratory experiments.
ProSA resolves this problem, bringing valuable results in a user-friendly format. It's easy to install, maintain and extend due to its modular development scheme. It was developed by Mauricio Herrera Cuadra as his B.S. thesis project.
