Ian Simpson

I am a geneticist who has specialised in both neuro-developmental biology and bioinformatics/computational biology applied to gene regulation and gene regulatory networks (GRNs).

As of 2007, I have been working in the Jarman lab in the Centre for Integrative Physiology at Edinburgh University on a project aiming to discover the GRNs underlying peripheral nervous system (PNS) development in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.

My approaches heavily use BioPerl both stand alone and through the excellent EnsEMBL Perl API.

I have been programming Perl seriously for about 2 years now, so am a relative newbie who is keen to contribute to the community.
