Flybase is a model organism database for the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster. The additional genome sequencing of additional species has expanded the scope many more Drosophila species. See the website flybase.net for more information.

BioPerl contributors Chris Mungall, Suzi Lewis, and Mark Yandell all worked as part of Flybase, BDGP, or Celera which worked to provide annotation for the D. melanogaster genome[1].
